Day 1 was split into 4 key sessions: Demand, Resilience / Operational, Hydraulic Modelling Studies and Optimisation. It was good to see so many familiar faces at the conference but also network with new ones. We enjoyed listening to the presentations throughout the day, particularly the paper during session 2 on modelling Supply Interruptions by Richard Barnes & Ashley Upton from HydroCo. They discussed the benefits, challenges, and limitations of using models to track supply interruptions. We have also carried out similar work recently, so it was interesting to see their perspective in utilising the models.
The interactive workshop on Day 2 titled, The Fundamentals of Field Testing, focused on field testing best practices including topics such as logger accuracy, levelling techniques, health and safety and planning considerations. We especially enjoyed seeing older equipment that has been used over the years as well as the insight of seeing peoples responses to the survey questions on equipment, processes and haircuts!
The event emphasised the need for hydraulic modelling through a wide range of applications including water quality, quantifying the extent of interruption to supply events, and the needs of small rural communities. It also demonstrated that hydraulic modelling is an ongoing process that continues to develop in both understanding and software.
Thanks to all those involved in the conference organisation, it was a successful event.
