Improving the Quality and Reliability of Data
At Crowder Consulting, our extensive data validation routines ensure that corporate and cloud systems data is not only valid but also trustworthy.
By achieving enhanced data validation and verification, water network operators benefit from:
- Informed decision-making
- Cost-effective and impactful allocation of resources
- Enhanced water management
- Improved customer service
- Reduced operational risks
- Robust compliance management and adherence to regulations
Data Validation
With the benefit of extensive knowledge and experience of network operators’ corporate and cloud systems data, we have developed extensive data validation routines for Netbase and conducted many types of data projects, including:
Address-Matching
Our address-matching routines are designed to connect client billing system addresses to authoritative sources such as OS Address Base Premium and Royal Mail PAF. We can link properties through this process in the billing system with external data sources and grade the matches, ensuring more accurate location information.
Additionally, we utilise external systems, such as OS Code-Point, to validate postcodes in billing systems.
Time-Series Data Validation
We perform time-series data validation during the import phase to detect gaps, flatlines, and poor data quality. Netbase Alarms analysis identifies irregularities and abnormal patterns in time-series data, often signalling potential equipment failures or events.
These alarms can automatically invalidate associated measured data and assist in merging DMAs in water balance analyses when a faulty asset is involved.
Data Infilling
Our data-infilling projects involve collating and merging GIS and asset system data, establishing connectivity between assets, and applying rules-based engines to fill missing data gaps.
Asset Details
To ensure data accuracy in Netbase and engineering projects, we apply asset update routines that cross-check client data against industry-standard lookup tables. For instance, if the ‘date laid’ attribute for an imported pipe does not align with its material type (for example, cast iron), we make the necessary updates.
Consumptions
Validation will be carried out whilst calculating customer consumptions and night-use allowances. We scrutinise imported readings and consumptions from the client billing system, automatically invalidating negative calculated consumptions and detecting outliers for exclusion
Data Visualisation
Our data validation and verification processes culminate in rich, integrated relational data hubs structured around water network hierarchies.
We offer various methods for visualising this data, including:
Netbase
Our suite of best-practice applications empowers network operators with tools and analyses for efficient network monitoring, operation, optimisation, and management.
Dashboards
Netbase's data endpoints enable the development of ML-powered Business Intelligence insights into water company data, allowing decision-makers to explore and interpret information interactively.
GIS
Netbase's GIS tools facilitate the creation of thematic maps of water networks, providing decision-makers with colour-coded insights for improved insights and better understanding.
Reports
We offer offline reports tailored to specific requirements and projects, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel files with data summaries, tables, graphs, and charts.
