Leakage Detection Training Courses

Foundation

Standard

The Standard Leakage Detection eLearning course is an excellent knowledge base for all upcoming leakage practitioners, whether they’re new to the industry or looking to reinforce their knowledge.

This course covers a wide variety of information from when to use a metal detector, to how to use hydrophones on a correlator.  The course is designed with practitioners in mind to build on their understanding out in the field. With a mixture of videos, slide decks, and interactive elements, we’ve taken each learning type into consideration on our eLearning platform. Each trainee will receive their unique log in and dashboard, where they can be enrolled onto courses specific to their job and level of competency. The course can be left at any time and progress will be saved, just in case you need to attend to an urgent incident mid-course.

As the course has been CPD certified, trainees gain a certificate as evidence of furthering their professional development. It is recommended, that trainees who successfully complete this course, undertake the Advanced eLearning course, for access to the full suite of tutorials on Leakage Detection including Pressure Zero Tests and Step Testing.

Course Aims

Our course is designed to educate and reinforce participants’ understanding of leak detection within the water industry.  The aims are listed below:

  • To understand the best practice techniques to investigate, locate and pinpoint leaks
  • To understand the uses of various leakage detection equipment
  • To gain insight of the context in which the equipment should be used

Advanced

The Advanced Leakage Detection course is for those who wish to build on their understanding and knowledge of leakage reduction techniques. The course provides insight into innovative methods of leak detection and measuring water loss. Participants will be equipped with theoretical and technical knowledge which can be applied to their roles as leakage engineers.

This course covers many different topics such as the use of Pressure Zero Testing to ensure DMAs are hydraulically discrete and how Step Testing is used for localizing leaks on plastic systems with low pressures.  As this course is designed to follow on from the Standard course, practitioners foundation knowledge is strengthened by the advanced theory for further understanding of the water network out in the field.

It is recommended that trainees who successfully complete this course, undertake our Leakage Detection Practitioner: Standard Course, which consists of a 1 day classroom session with Equipment Demos, Theory, Group Activities and Knowledge Checks. Followed by 1 day onsite for one2one Coaching, Hands-on Training and Practical Assessments.

Course Aims

Our course is designed to educate and reinforce participants’ understanding of leak detection within the water industry.  The aims are listed below:

  • To understand more advanced methodologies and procedures to investigate leakage
  • To understand the principles and application of various flow and pressure measurements across the water network
  • To become familiar with the process of validating and sectorising areas within the network as part of leakage investigations

Practitioner

Standard

The Leakage Detection Practitioner Course is the next step in our CPD certified training program following on from eLearning. The course will provide participants with practical techniques, in-person classroom training and personalised assessments to improve, map and guide a leakage engineer’s knowledge and development. The course consists of two parts: part 1 is classroom style training and part 2 is an onsite assessment. As the course has been CPD certified, trainees gain a certificate as evidence of furthering their professional development.

Course Aims

Our course is designed to educate and reinforce participants’ understanding of leak detection within the water industry.  The aims are listed below:

  • To participate in interactive sessions with an expert practitioner in leakage detection that covers theory, practical case studies, equipment demonstrations, group activities and knowledge checks
  • To be able to competently use all the equipment required out in the field for carrying out leakage detection activities
  • To be able to apply best practice techniques out in the field to investigate, locate and pinpoint leaks
  • To be able to carry out all the fundamental competencies for leakage detection in the one2one coaching and assessment

Day 1

Day 1 consists of a classroom session taught by an experienced leakage engineer. This will cover many topics touched on in our eLearning, such as leakage detection equipment and network assets, and these will be expanded upon via live equipment and asset demonstrations, group assignments and real-world examples. A group of trainees can be taught at once.

Day 2

Each participant will spend a day with the expert leakage engineer to discuss, demonstrate and assess their personal knowledge and skills. The one2one coaching and assessments are a combination of practical tests and knowledge check questions, which are all recorded. This gives participants and employers a great record of the leakage engineers knowledge status and training needs at that time. A report will then be delivered for each participant to carry out these assessments.
